It’s been roughly 4.5 years since my first trip to Cambodia and I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to go back. My mom and I will be traveling together again. This wasn’t how I imagined my next Cambodia trip to happen, but I think it’s a well deserve trip for the both of us regardless. This trip was totally unplanned. If you know me then you also know that’s not like me. I’m all about planning and having a day-to-day itinerary. I had imagined my next trip to be with a group of friends or with more of my immediate family members including my husband. I want to stay longer than my last trip so we could spend enough time with all of our relatives who we only get to see once in a blue moon and to also allow time to do some volunteer work. This upcoming trip will only be for two weeks and that’s considered a relatively short time to spend there. Since most of us who left Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge era don’t always have the opportunity, time and resource to return as frequently as we would like two weeks isn’t enough time! However, since it’s my second trip to Cambodia most of the big touristy activities were already covered during my first visit. My main goal for this trip is to just go with the flow, relax and be thankful for another chance to go back. It’s always on my mind to visit Cambodia as often as possible, but it’s always hard when I have so many other places I would like to visit as well. The timing of this trip is also just perfect. We’re going to be there for Cambodian New Years! I can’t even begin to imagine how that will be like. Looking forward to it!
For this trip I’m going to do this a little different. Instead of trying to blog in real time like I usually try to do on my trips, I’m going to share about the trip after I get back. This doesn’t mean I won’t have the urge to skip into an Internet cafe, hop on a computer and say hi!
Before I wrap up this post I want to share a few of my favorite pictures from Siem Reap during my last trip. Anyone going to Cambodia for the first time have to go to Siem Reap for the amazing wats (temples) in Cambodia. You will be in awe. For all my Khmer people I guarantee you will be proud of our history and ancestors. It’s something most, including myself, are out of touch with growing up in the States especially when the reason for so many of us being here in the States was due to the atrocity of war in which Cambodia and its people are still slowly recovering from. Unfortunately, we won’t have time to make it out there again during this trip. We’ll be spending most of our time in the capital city Phnom Penh.
Enjoy these beautiful images!
