Canon EOS 40D

Meet my new best friend who finally arrived yesterday.  We have lots to learn about each other, which I hope won’t be a problem since I plan to devote much quality time with it.  Well, more like with whatever free time I have.  I got interested in photography a few years ago, but couldn’t really get myself to throw money on a nice camera even with my deep passion for it.  I’m not even sure why I waited this long to pick up on a DSLR.  Actually, I do know… part of it was because other dire needs kept getting in the way.  Also, I wasn’t sure if it might be another one of those phases that people go through and I had to feel sure.  Well, here I am still very interested in photography.  I’ve watched friends with similar interests grow with their hobbies over the years and they’re so inspirational to me.  I feel so behind and honestly even a little envious, haha.  Not to sound stalker-ish, but I’ve been blog stalking a few photographers as well for quite some time and passively learning from them.  I itched to get my hands on a DSLR.  Their work only added more fuel to my desire to pick up on photography.  So what is it about now that’s different from before to finally get my feet wet?  It finally feels right!  I knew that if I didn’t do something about it now then it’ll always be on the back burner.  I had to “just do it” like Nike (it’s my motto for 2009).  I’m so excited and can’t wait to start learning and experimenting with the 40D.  I actually have a few “practice” opportunities and projects coming up.  Stay tuned and wish me luck!  I so need to start reading the manual, ugh.

I’m such a slacker.  Last month, I finally got around to putting together two sets of wedding albums for my in-laws and my sister in-law who lives in Illinois.  FINALLY!  It’s been way too long and I feel horrible for making them wait all this time to see the pictures.   To my defense, in the meantime, I did send out an email to the online album, but apparently they claim they never got my email.  It’s a tough job narrowing down from over 1,000 pictures taken during our two-day wedding affair to just 300.  Actually, it was kind of easy to pick out pictures for my in-laws.  I know they don’t care to have pictures of my parents’ guests and all, so I weeded all of those out.  I found these simple black photo albums at Fred Myers.  I forgot to take pictures of them though.  While it looked elegant enough to hold wedding photos, it sure didn’t have the feel of high quality albums.  Oh well, I’m on budget alright?  So, speaking of albums I haven’t gotten around to making any albums for myself yet.  Perhaps I can try to make this our one year anniversary project or something? When I was searching  for a wedding photographer I just wanted to negotiate for full rights to the digital files only.  Wedding photography is expensive!  At that time I didn’t care for the extra 8×10, 2-5×7, 20 page parent albums, etc. that could drive up the cost of the wedding packages.  I felt it was cheaper to get them printed and done myself, which is true.  Now for the coffee table/photobook albums, that’s a different story.  My plan was to design my own pages and layouts on my own time when I’m ready and then find a printing company that doesn’t just cater to professionals to get my albums made.  Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten around to doing much research.  My friend Kim has been nice and helpful enough to suggest a few sites.  My photographer, Mikal, also mentioned I could always design my own stuff and then go through him to order my albums since he will obviously have access to more professional printing companies.  That’s another option.  I’d have to check back with him about it though.  Now, if I can only get myself motivated to start playing around with Photoshop again.  I guess there’s a reason why people pay a lot of money to get this all done for them, huh?  If you have money to spare then I’d say go for it.  If not then you’ll just have to be creative and flexible.
